A properly designed language font, in my opinion, should have the following attributes:
1. It should not be too difficult to transliterate; if it's meant to be marketed in a country where the standard is ISO Latin-1, the correspondence should be fairly close between the two character sets, such that Russian letters in an American Russian font correspond roughly to their English equivalents as opposed to having the letters fitted over a standard keyboard in a way designed to make it impossible to easily transliterate without retyping.
2. It contains all the necessary keys for the language, so that a Turkish font works like it's supposed to without any klutzy workarounds.
3. (goes with 1) Comes with at least a pointer to an appropriate keyboard.
My fonts attempt to follow that concept as well as possible. However, to fully work with them, you do need to do a bit of work with them. These instructions should cover all the tricky parts.
1. This is the most difficult step, but you only have to do it once every time you reinstall your system software. Get a copy of ResEdit somehow. The easiest way is from ftp.apple.com, in /dts/mac/tools/resedit. Open up your System file and go into the itlc resource. change the radio button under "always show keyboard menu" or something similar and change it to 1. Close up your System file and don't mess with anything else unless you've got something else to install.
2. Put the font files in your Fonts folder.
3. Restart the Mac.
4. When you want to use the font, select the font and then go to the keyboard menu (if you have only a US Mac, it's the one that magically appears between the help and application menus when you restart.
Be careful with step 1. Still, it's worth it if you've got a reason to have it. Resedit is a good thing to learn anyway. Enjoy your new fonts.
